Rangoli at School Reunion
This 'Rangoli' (traditional decoration with colored chalk powder, flowers & oil lamps) was done painstakingly by my classmate Manisha & her team at our School Reunion on 29th December 2007 to welcome schoolmates who met after 25 years. Another classmate Unmesh captured image of this Beautiful Piece of Art, and I thought it would be a nice idea to share this masterpiece with all of you !

I was Tagged by Cova Djuro & Patrick AND HENCE THIS POSTING !!!
THE RULES:
1. Link to the person's blog who tagged you.
2. Post these rules on your blog.
3. List seven random and/or weird facts about yourself.
4. Tag seven random [?] people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by posting a comment on their blog.
So here we go, seven weird random things about me:
1. I learnt english alphabets twice in school - when I was in junior kindergarten ( I was 4 then) and then again when I changed school in 5th Grade, when I was 10. The new school had Marathi ( an Indian language derived from Sanskrit) as language of instruction.
2. I met with a freak accident when I was 7, when I slipped from a swing & got my tongue badly cut. Timely medical aid and skill of Surgeon made it possible for me to retain my tongue. Else I would have been unable to speak for rest of my life.
3. My school (where I studied from 5th to 10th grade) was a co-ed school. But due to the conservative environment, boys and girls sat in different rows and didn't talk with each other, except for the annual social gathering !
4. My drawings during school days were simply horrible. My mother, who wanted me to pursue engineering as career, was naturally a worried person. She discussed the issue with my drawing teacher, and perhaps that gentleman took it as personal challenge. The end result was wonderful, and I keep on loving drawings in all forms till date. I will have the opportunity to meet that nice gentleman again (after 25 years) at the school reunion !
5. I was an obese boy througout my school years, and didn't participate in any of the athletic events. Things changed for the better in college.
6. I studied 1st year engineering at a college , which was 800 kms away from home. At that time, one phone call to home used to cost me almost a month's bill for meals. Things have certainly changed for better in last 21 years - a single meal today costs more than twice a phone call to that place!
7. I had an 'arranged marraige', a system still prevalent in India, though to much reduced extent now. We were introduced to each other - and had barely 2 meetings ( 30 minutes each) to decide whether we would like to marry each other ! Even after many years of marraige, I keep on appreciating Sujata's decision !
Well, the list goes on....., but I would save more interesting things for future postings.
There is an old verse in Sanskrit, which says that 'Knowledge is a kind of wealth which grows in direct proportion to rate at which it is shared with others'. After joing zaadz, I think joy, frienship & fun are natural companions of knowledge and follow the same rule.
Now I am going to tag

Reflection !
I had designed this structure way back in 2001. An error in survey led to submergence of a village road, and installation work of dam gates was delayed for a number of years. The road was reconstructed at higher level, and project was commissioned only a month back !
Such incidents are not isolated in our country, and need reflection on part of planners & project authorities.
Anyway, when storage was effected in dam, everyone was mesmerised with the beauty of nature !
What one person do you wish you could reunite with?
Yes, it does sound ridiculus, but I desperately want to reunite with that part of myself which I have lost on way, in this journey called life. I want to be reunited with that person who experienced pure joy in wonderful & timeless creations, unadultrated by things called deadlines, profits & marketability.
Do you believe happiness is a choice?
One who has mastered this art is called a YOGI !
One of My Recent Designs - In Operation
These gates open out by water pressure alone, when the dam is filled to capacity, and close back when floods recede. No electricity or human intervention is required.
